Discover Shawarma On The Run

Walking into Shawarma On The Run for the first time felt less like trying a new spot and more like being welcomed into a neighborhood hangout where food does the talking. Tucked away at 2321 W Esplanade Ave STE K, Kenner, LA 70065, United States, this diner-style restaurant has built a loyal following by focusing on one thing and doing it right: fresh, boldly seasoned Middle Eastern comfort food that actually lives up to the hype in local reviews.

On my first visit, I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap, mostly because it’s the item people consistently mention when they say best shawarma in Kenner. The process is visible and reassuring. Meat is shaved fresh from the rotating spit, tossed onto a warm pita, layered with crisp vegetables, and finished with house-made garlic sauce. That sauce matters. According to food science research from institutions like Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, emulsified garlic sauces retain flavor compounds better than oil-heavy dressings, which explains why each bite here tastes balanced instead of greasy. You can actually taste the lemon, garlic, and tahini rather than just salt.

The menu stays focused but flexible. Alongside wraps, there are shawarma plates with rice, hummus, and salad, plus falafel options that even meat lovers order without hesitation. I’ve seen families split platters, college students grab quick lunches, and delivery drivers lining up during peak hours. That kind of crowd diversity usually signals consistency. When a place can satisfy different appetites without watering things down, it earns trust.

One thing that stands out is portion control. Many diners overdo it, but here the balance feels intentional. Nutrition data from the USDA shows that balanced meals with lean proteins, vegetables, and whole grains improve satiety, and this restaurant quietly follows that principle. You leave full, not sluggish. That’s probably why so many regulars mention coming back weekly in reviews.

Service plays a big role too. On a busy afternoon, I watched the staff handle a packed room without losing patience or warmth. Orders came out accurate, questions about spice levels were answered clearly, and substitutions were handled without eye rolls. In casual dining, that kind of reliability matters more than fancy plating. The staff clearly knows the food, which adds credibility when they recommend combinations or explain ingredients.

Location-wise, being on West Esplanade makes it an easy stop whether you’re local or just passing through Kenner. Parking is straightforward, and the space is clean and functional rather than trendy. That works in its favor. According to the National Restaurant Association, customers increasingly value authenticity over aesthetics, especially in casual eateries. This place feels authentic because it prioritizes food and consistency over decoration.

There are a few limitations worth noting. Seating is modest, so during lunch rushes you might wait or opt for takeout. The menu doesn’t rotate often, which could feel repetitive if you’re craving novelty. That said, the flavors are strong enough that most people don’t mind sticking with favorites.

What keeps people talking about this spot isn’t just the shawarma itself, but how dependable the experience is. From the way ingredients are handled to how orders are prepared and served, everything feels intentional. It’s the kind of restaurant you recommend without hesitation because you know exactly what someone else will get when they walk in: good food, fair prices, and flavors that don’t pretend to be anything they’re not.

  • My boyfriend and I went to try this place; it was his first time trying Middle Eastern food and (he) we absolutely loved it. The cashier was a very sweet man and patience with us as we ordered and truly helpful in having us understand what was something we didn’t know. The Lebanese tea was delicious basically everything we ordered. Definitely going back to try the rest.

  • Grabbed some dinner to go and was impressed with how clean and comfortable the restaurant was. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap with fries. It was very good but I wish taziki sauce came with it. The wrap was a tad bland due to minimal sauce but the ingredients were fresh and delicious.

  • I’ve had Shawarma all over the world, and I do believe this is the best I’ve had. I would travel to New Orleans again just to eat here, in fact. I had chicken shawarma, pita, falafel, rice, hummus, and garlic sauce. To me, it is the quality, flavor, and freshness of all these things that make the perfect Mediterranean combination. They nailed each component! Additionally, the restaurant is well lit and clean, and the service is over-the-top! Highly recommend! I’ll be back next time I’m in town.

  • The food is amazing! Good flavor and it tastes fresh. You also get a good amount of food for the price. The staff and owner are super friendly and checks in to make sure everything is okay. I recommend and would come again! Next time I'll try the desserts, they look delicious

  • We had: Gyro wrap, steak bowl, and falafel sooo delicious! The food on the pics is half eaten since we couldn't wait to try it and it's a miracle we stopped to take pictures! The flavors and the freshness of ingredients were outstanding! You could taste various flavors of rice, meat, sauces and everything was perfectly balanced. All complemented by a very nice and polite young man at the front desk! The place looks very clean and the only regret is that we live far enough not to be able to visit more frequently! We got an extra wrap for tomorrow and we will be back for sure!!!

  • My first visit here - just had the lentil soup and bahklava. Both were EXCELLENT. The lentil soup has a very nice flavor - fairly strong curry/cumin flavor, that compliments the flavor of the lentils very nicely. Fantastic. The bakhlava is wonderful. Sweet but not too sweet. Layered, with just the right amount of pistachios and honey. At $1.99 for a nice-sized triangular piece, this is excellent. Will come back soon and add to my review.
